Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to analyse the market potential of carbon concrete in German bridge construction. For the analysis, the general application possibilities of carbon reinforced concrete construction, the basic procedure for the preparation of market analyses and the implementation of these analyses should first be explained in a compact manner. A suitable methodological approach was to be selected for carrying out the market analysis and the market analysis was to be carried out on the basis of valid data (e.g. from the Federal Statistical Office). The result of the market analysis was subsequently explained and discussed in detail with regard to possible fields of application for carbon concrete construction in bridge building. Based on proven market research methods, it was shown that the existing instruments are suitable for evaluating the spread of innovative building materials. The analysis of existing bridges in Germany reveals a considerable need for repair: Over 1,400 reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges on federal trunk roads are in acute need of refurbishment, and more than 27,000 are affected in the medium to long term. Random samples of technical bridge data and statistical projections show that the use of carbon reinforced concrete is technically feasible in the majority of cases and that there is therefore promising potential for the use of carbon reinforced concrete to overcome economic and ecological challenges in the construction industry.
