At the Institute of Construction Materials, an international team of scientific staff researches the construction materials of the future in close cooperation with scientific support staff as well as external partners. The latest findings are transferred directly from research to teaching in order to make this knowledge available to students.

In close cooperation with current research, the institute offers interfaculty courses on the fundamentals of construction materials as well as on advanced topics specific to construction materials for the faculties of civil engineering, environmental sciences, economics and education.

Research at the Institute is strongly oriented towards developing more sustainable construction materials for the future in times of increasing material scarcity and the increasingly noticeable effects of climate change accelerated by high CO2 emissions. These high-performance materials should help to reduce the use of raw materials and promote greater durability in order to increase the useful life of buildings.
