CARBOrefit®
New Product – New Name – New Owner
The CARBOrefit® process for strengthening with the material carbon reinforced concrete is regulated by the highest German building authority – the “Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt)” – with the general building authority approval/general component type approval (abZ/aBG) Z-31.10-182. After the expiry of the previous TUDALIT® approval, the approval was extended by the new holder, CARBOCON GmbH, and renamed to CARBOrefit®. Furthermore, a consortium was formed, which takes care of the extension and further continuation of the approval.
The Otto Mohr Laboratory (OML) of Technische Universität Dresden is indirectly involved in the approval because of the extensive testing activities. A large number of the new reinforcement materials were tested in the OML in the course of the approval extension. As part of the continuation and expansion of the possibilities of application, the components of the approval will also be further developed in the future in cooperation between the consortium of the approval and the OML. Tests currently being carried out on the reinforcement materials serve to demonstrate their possibility under various environmental influences. For example, the characteristics of the material exposured to cloride and sea salt is unregulated and their influence on the tensile strength of the yarns is still partly unknown. For this purpose, we perform tensile tests on different fiber strands after appropriate media storage and compare them with previously tested reference samples. In this project, the special storage is carried out at the Institute of Construction Materials (IfB) of the Technische Universität Dresden.
Furthermore, we support the reinforcement manufacturers in their self-monitoring and test the produced meshes according to the approval’s specifications. Within the scope of factory production control, yarn tensile tests, tensile tests on composite specimens, bond tests on the overlap specimens and prism tests are carried out to determine the characteristic values of single and composite materials. These tests verify whether the reinforcements meet the CARBOrefit® quality standards and may be used in accordance with the approval. In this way, any deficiencies can be identified and eliminated even before application
