Research and Studies
The Institute of Mechanics and Shell Structures provides classes for engineering mechanics, continuum mechanics, tensor calculus, micromechanics, shell structures, and numerical methods for the simulation of modern materials. Focus in research is the development of numerical methods and models for the computer simulation of complex materials such as e.g. textile membranes, soft biological tissues, multiphase steels, and fiber-reinforced concrete. Of central importance for research, in particular in biomechanics, is the interdisciplinary character, which shows itself in various collaborations with engineers, mathematicians, biologists, and physicians.
