Chair of Steel Structures presents itself at the third "Workshop on High-Performance Steel Structures" in Shanghai
From August 20 to 21, 2024, a delegation from the Chair of Steel Construction at TU Dresden took part in the third "Workshop on High-Performance Steel Structures" in Shanghai. The delegation, consisting of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stroetmann, Mr. Rust, Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Penner, contributed significantly to the scientific program and represented TU Dresden with scientific presentations.
The focus of the workshop was the intensive technical exchange between the participating scientists and experts. The representatives of the Chair of Steel Construction from Dresden gained in-depth insights into the current research work at the Chair of Prof. Guo-Qiang Li at the College of Civil Engineering at the renowned Tongji University in Shanghai. Prof. Kwok Fai Chung from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Director of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch) also presented the latest findings. These scientific discussions provided a valuable opportunity to gain new impetus for future projects and to further intensify cooperation with international partners.
A particular highlight of the workshop was the visit to the construction site of the G60 project. An impressive roof structure made of high-strength steel and aluminum elements is being erected here, which exemplifies the practical application of the theoretical concepts discussed in the workshop. The visit to the construction site impressively illustrated how innovative materials and advanced construction methods lead to future-oriented buildings.
The delegation also visited the headquarters of the consulting and planning office Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co, Ltd. The economic and ecological advantages of high-strength steel were discussed with senior employees, opening up new perspectives for the use of this material in the global construction industry and identifying obstacles.
The visit was rounded off with a tour of the campus and laboratories of Tongji University. The special hospitality and the open, constructive professional exchange left a lasting impression and laid the foundation for further cooperation between TU Dresden and the participating institutions in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Participation in the workshop underlines the international networking of the Chair of Steel Construction and the relevance of its research in the global scientific landscape.
