Historical wooden objects (I)
Project
Modelling and Characterization of the Structural Behaviour of Wooden Cultural Heritage under Hygro-mechanical Loading
Research topics
- Investigation of the structural behaviour of four historical museum objects by means of the Finite Element Method
- Development of macroscopic, hygro-mechanically coupled material formulations for the characterisation of the long-term behaviour of wood
- Analysis, respectively prediction of the long-term behaviour of the historical objects subjected to mechanical and hygrical loadings
- In co-operation with ETH Zurich: material and object tests for the experimental investigation of the hygro-mechanical behaviour of unusual wood species and historical adhesives and surface coatings
- Consideration of the influence of the natural variation of material properties and the natural ageing of wood
- As result: definition of tolerable variations of room climate within museums
