Daria Menzel takes on the DB InfraGO Endowed Chair for Digital Railway Systems

The "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at TUD Dresden University of Technology is pleased to welcome Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daria Menzel as the holder of the newly established DB InfraGO Endowed Chair for Digital Railway Systems. With her proven expertise in control and safety technology, as well as her experience with innovative rail systems, she will play a key role in advancing research, teaching, and technology transfer in the field of rail transport digitization.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daria Menzel brings a solid educational background and diverse experience to the Endowed Chair. After completing her studies at the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering with a focus on railway safety technology, she earned her doctorate at the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in the field of railway safety technology. She then gained valuable practical experience in leadership positions within the industry, where she developed innovative approaches to railway technology. Now she is returning to her alma mater to take on a key role at the intersection of academia and industry.

The Chair, funded by DB InfraGO, is a significant building block for strategic collaboration between academia and industry. It strengthens the training of highly qualified professionals and promotes the development and implementation of innovative technologies in the railway sector. A particular focus of the Chair is on digital control and safety technology. The focus here is on the analysis and design of safe technical railway systems in a targeted manner, while also taking human and organizational factors into account. The goal is to develop new methods and solutions for the challenges of digitalization in rail transport and to implement them in practice.

Prof. Menzel sees her role as a bridge between research and industry. Her work will help strengthen the rail industry’s capacity for innovation and develop solutions for the digitalization and automation of rail systems. Her professional focus is on a holistic understanding of the railway system as a whole — with a particular emphasis on control and safety technology.

With the appointment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daria Menzel, the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences is further expanding its expertise in the field of rail transport and underscoring its close partnership with DB InfraGO. Together, they are working on the digitalization and modernization of rail transport to strengthen the railroad as the backbone of sustainable mobility for the future.
