Dresden Senior Fellow Dr. Mariana Erasmus has many ideas for future collaborations
Dr. Mariana Erasmus from the Centre for Mineral Biogeochemistry at the University of the Free State (UFS) in South Africa is leaving TU Dresden after almost 5 weeks as a Dresden Senior Fellow. She brings with her a wealth of ideas for future collaborations.
During her time at TU Dresden, which she spent at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the Institute of Hydrobiology as a guest of Dr. Dirk Jungmann, Dr. Erasmus worked on the analysis of antibiotic resistance in aquatic samples. The focus was on the development of surveillance methods for low- and middle-income countries. Using state-of-the-art molecular techniques and bioinformatics tools, she investigated the spread and evolution of antibiotic resistance genes in water samples. Together with research groups at TU Dresden, she worked on topics such as climate change and antibiotic resistance, anthropogenic trace substances in ecosystems and sustainable resource management.
Much more information about Dr. Erasmus' stay at TU Dresden can also be found on the Dresden Fellows website.
