Project ECO²SCAPE: Measures for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services
The jury of the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration has classified ECO²SCAPE as a particularly positive contribution to the conservation and restoration of ecosystems in the field of cultural and agricultural landscapes and biodiversity. ECO²SCAPE has therefore been rated as an "Outstanding Example of the UN Decade".
In the transdisciplinary research project "ECO²SCAPE - Co-Design of ecologically and economically efficient policy instruments and measures for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in cultural landscapes", various measures for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services are developed together with farmers and other actors in the case study region "Vereinigte Mulde" in the northwest of Saxony. These will be piloted, scientifically monitored and tested for transferability beyond the case study region. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the period 2020-2024 and coordinated by the Chair of Computational Landscape Ecology at the TU Dresden.
The UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration was proclaimed by the United Nations for the years 2021 to 2030 and officially began on June 5, 2021. Within the framework of the UN Decade, the progressive degradation and destruction of ecosystems is to be halted and degraded ecosystems restored. In Germany, the UN Decade is implemented on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN).
