In time with the pandemic: How are Dresden residents currently out and about?
The TU Dresden and the state capital Dresden are currently collecting data on urban mobility again via app. They are supported by randomly selected Dresden residents. The aim is to obtain findings and deductions from them for needs-based urban traffic. All interested parties are cordially invited to take part until July 18 and at the same time to get to know their own mobility better.
"Dresden on the move - urban traffic at the cutting edge." This is the title of the mobility research group at the Institute for Transport Planning and Road Traffic of the Faculty of Transport Sciences "Friedrich List" at the Technical University (TU) Dresden, continuing the city-wide survey with the TravelVu app. In cooperation with the state capital Dresden, randomly selected people and their households are written to and asked for help by taking part for 7 days. Interested parties can also participate and thus help to make Dresden's city traffic more adaptable and to orient it towards current needs.
In the clear app design, you can track how you move around Dresden and how much time is spent on various activities. Learning algorithms and sensors in smartphones support the recording and suggest means of transport and activities. In addition, it is possible to trace your own routes and activities on an interactive map and adjust them if necessary. Participants support the city's traffic planning with every recorded day that they confirm in the app - and can thus get to know their own mobility better through interesting evaluations.
3rd wave of surveys: 900 Dresden residents are already taking part
“Results during the easing last year show that our everyday life has changed: distances have turned out to be shorter and were more often covered on foot or by bike,” explains Professor Regine Gerike, head of the research group. "Between relaxation and caution, a good year after the start of the pandemic, we are again asking ourselves what mobility in the city looks like today - and whether the initial trends will continue."
The meanwhile third wave of surveys started on May 17th and runs until July 18th: “There are already more than 900 Dresden residents involved - and often support us well beyond the one week. To ensure that the result is as comprehensive as possible, we look forward to welcoming every additional person involved in the survey, ”reports Johannes Weber, who works on the research project. “By collecting data via app, it is possible for us to map mobility in dynamic times flexibly and precisely. We are grateful for any feedback on this innovative form of survey and are happy to provide support."
Simply download the app and off you go - data is evaluated anonymously
Participation is voluntary. Participation is open to anyone aged 18 or over who mainly resides in Dresden. All you have to do is download the TravelVu app from the well-known app stores. The app is free of charge and is also available in English. Registration for use is not required.
The data is evaluated anonymously, it is not possible to draw any conclusions about the individual person. The provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) are complied with.
Important: The TravelVu app is only used to record mobility behavior with routes, purposes, means of transport used, etc. ("tracking"). There is no recording of corona infections or ways of spreading them (no "tracing").
