tryING: Trial Studies in Engineering as a Guest of the Faculty of Civil Engineering

Excursion to the Blue Wonder Bridge over the rive elbe
As part of the trial study program tryING, women interested in studying engineering at TU Dresden were able to gain exciting insights into the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Fantastische Aussicht und weiche Knie - auf dem Pylon des Blauen Wunders
On September 3, student Annalena Rodenberg (10th semester) and Dr.-Ing. Kerstin Speck (Teaching Representative at the Institute of Concrete Structures) took the participants to Dresden's Blue Wonder. There, Peter Deepe from the Road and Civil Engineering Office gave a lively insight into the history of the bridge and explained the current renovation work. A real highlight was climbing the pylons with an impressive view over the Elbe valley and bridge scenery - one less item on the bucket list for many (albeit with slightly wobbly knees 🫠).
On the second date on September 18, Dean apl. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Birgit Beckmann and Research Associate Jasmin Dräger accompanied the group through the Otto Mohr Laboratory. Between the testing hall and the technical center, they were given insights into non-destructive testing, load tests and innovative research projects - including Jamin's work on chemically prestressed carbon concrete structures as part of the Collaborative Research Center/Transregio 280.

In addition to the civil engineers, there were numerous other events on the program for the participants. The TUD's tryING program thus offers an ideal opportunity for female high school graduates who want to immerse themselves in the world of engineering.
