TU Dresden Expertise at the negotiating table of the world climate conference (COP27)
What do the four young people in the picture have in common? Well, they are all active in their respective delegations at the COP27 of the UNFCCC in Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt right now. They are all concerned about the global impacts of climate change and the urgency of a common sustainable development … and they all bring their experience gained at TU Dresden to the negotiation table.
Mr. Tamba Emmanuel Nyaka (Sierra Leone), Ms. Nune Sakanyan (Armenia), Mr. Jeremy Antoine Raguain (Seychelles) and Mr. Mukhibullo Dzhunaidov (Tajikistan) – from left to right – were all participants of the 43rd UNEP/UNESCO/BMUV International Postgraduate Course on Environmental Management in 2020 at the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management (CIPSEM) at TU Dresden.
Besides benefitting from the features of that course program bringing together young change agents from the Global South, this very course in 2020 remains special beyond that. Due to the pandemic (as another reminder to not go further beyond our planetary boundaries) the course was shifted from its on-site format to a full-time online schedule covering 12 time zones, in which most of the course participants were able to get home, but others were stuck in Dresden for some time due to travel restrictions.
The course finished with its first-ever fully online closing ceremony in July 2020 – but the strong networks and the impact remain!
