Welcome at the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management!
CIPSEM is a facility within the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TU Dresden and responsible for the implementation of the UNEP/UNESCO/BMUB International Postgraduate-Program in Environmental Management for Developing and Emerging Countries.
The target group are environmental experts from developing and emerging countries. Every year, a six-month long course, and three four-week short courses take place. The long course covers a wide range of topics and emphasises links between them. The specialized short courses each have annually changing focus such as soil and land resources, integrated water management, ecosystem management and protection of biodiversity, sustainable cities, resource efficiency including waste management, mobility, energy or climate change.
CIPSEM was founded at TU Dresden in 1977 with the support of UNESCO and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP); since 1990, the course program is funded by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
Moreover, CIPSEM is also responsible for the implementation of the International Climate Protection Fellowship program of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This scholarship allows young leaders to spend a year at a German research institution to work on a research-related project of their choice in the field of climate and climate-related natural resources.
