TU Dresden with science mile at the family festival on World Children's Day in the Weißwasser station on September 18th
Project "POP-UP-WISSEN - Knowledge creates dialogue" collects and answers questions from small and big citizens to science
Since the beginning of the year, communication has been buzzing between the TU Dresden (TUD) and numerous actors from education, culture, sport, business and politics in Weißwasser. This is made possible by the project "POP-UP-WISSEN - Knowledge creates dialogue". With this, the TUD, together with external partners in Dresden and Weißwasser, had decided for this year's Science Year 2022 - "Enquired! My question to science” from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and was awarded the contract.
The heart of the project is the intensive exchange between citizens of all ages and researchers from TUD and DRESDEN-concept e.V., the research alliance of TU Dresden with more than 30 local non-university research and cultural institutions. For this purpose, more than 400 questions from the citizenry to science were collected in the project by the summer - around 100 of them in Weißwasser.
After lectures and holiday workshops with scientists in the POP-UP-WISSENsladen of the TUD (Straße der Glasmacher 6-8, Weißwasser) in the past few months, another project highlight - if not the biggest within the project year - is coming up in Weißwasser next Sunday:
Science mile of the TU Dresden and partner institutions
When: September 18, 2 pm to 6 pm at the big family festival on World Children's Day
Where: Station Young Technicians and Naturalists,
Professor-Wagenfeld-Ring 130, 02943 Weißwasser
At ten stations, scientists from TUD and partner institutions present current research projects, invite you to participate with small experiments and look forward to a lively exchange and dialogue with visitors of all ages.
“The excellence university TU Dresden continuously sets outstanding impulses for forward-looking research and innovation. What our researchers do every day has a direct impact on the lives of people in town and country. With the project 'POP-UP-WISSEN - Knowledge creates dialogue', we want to make it even more possible to experience what influences these are and how science actually works. That is why we at TU Dresden are very pleased to be guests on site at the Weißwasser station next Sunday, September 18th, together with partners such as the Dresden Technical Collections," says the Rector of the TU Dresden, Prof Ursula M .Staudinger.
Every year, the members of the youth work network of the city of Weißwasser and their partners invite you to the family festival around World Children's Day with numerous hands-on activities and a colorful stage program on the grounds of the Weißwasser station. It starts at 2 pm. At around 3 pm, the Mayor of Weißwasser, Torsten Pötzsch, will give a greeting. "Mr. Pötzsch and the city administration have supported our project 'POP-UP-WISSEN - Knowledge creates dialogue' from the start with great commitment and passion. A big thank you for that,” says Prof. Roswitha Böhm, Vice Rector of University Culture at the TU Dresden, in whose area of responsibility the project including the POP-UP-WISSENsladen is located.
A tour of the DRESDEN-concept science exhibition will be offered on Sunday from 12:50 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. Prof. Gerhard Rödel, Managing Director of DRESDEN-concept e.V., will briefly present the research alliance and the exhibition. Three scientists from the DRESDEN-concept network will then take a closer look at three topics: cultural assets by Roland Schwarz (Technical Collections Dresden), material by Markus Forytta (Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS) and climate & water by Franziska Stölzel (UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources).
"The TU Dresden aims to help shape the structural change in Lusatia as a social player and the largest university institution in Saxony. Together with our partners from DRESDEN-concept e.V. in the POP-UP-WISSENsladen, at the science exhibition of DRESDEN-concept e.V. and at the family festival in Weißwasser, we are happy to give an insight into our commitment in the Lausitzer Revier and with the local people to get into a conversation. World Children's Day as an occasion for the family festival and for the science mile is a wonderful symbolism. The research results from the Lausitz research projects will shape the future of our children and grandchildren in the long term,” explains the Rector of the TU Dresden.
