UN Day 2025 - 'Education shapes the Future'
Celebration of United Nations Day (UN Day) 2025 with presentation of the 'Lokale Agenda Dresden Award 2025' on October 24, 2025.
Table of contents
Technology and science have a long tradition in Saxony. However, there is still a gender imbalance in career choices in our region. How does this come about? On UN Day 2025 in Dresden, we will be exploring the question of how early the gender gap in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) arises, what global differences exist and how innovative teaching and learning formats can help to overcome educational inequalities.
In 2015, the member states of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In line with this year's focus topic 'Education shapes the future', UN Day 2025 is specifically addressing SDG 4 'Quality education'.
We are looking forward to an exciting panel discussion, which will be introduced by Prof. Christian Leßmann (Professor of Economics, esp. International Economic Relations, TUD) with a short impulse address to introduce the audience to the topic and the discussion. Together with Prof. Edeltraud Günther (Director of UNU-FLORES), he will moderate the panel, which will be accompanied by a welcome address from the First Mayor of the City of Dresden, Department of Education, Youth and Sport, Jan Donhauser.
The panel discussion will be followed by the 26th Lokale Agenda Award Ceremony in the second part of the event.
