Our Alumni
In 2017 CIPSEM was celebrating its forty-year jubilee. Since its establishment in 1977 over 2100 experts from 138 countries have visited Dresden to participate in one of the offered courses covering different fields of environmental management. The sustainable management of water-, soil-, and land resources, renewable energies, energy efficiency, climate change, nature protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable cities are just a few of the topics which are constantly updated and adjusted to be of relevance and applicable for the course participants from emerging and developing countries.
Our Alumni
Up to now, more than 2100 participants from 138 countries of Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean have graduated successfully from the various courses of the UNEP/UNESCO/BMUV training program. Many of them are still in contact with each other and with CIPSEM. Thereby the international and often intercontinental collaboration, which started in Dresden, continues. In this area of our website you will find our Alumni Gallery, which contains the list of all previous courses and the respective final photos. Moreover, as of late the former participants have the opportunity to present themselves, their workfield and expertise in the Alumni profiles-section on our website. In doing so, they are visible for the alumni network and also for potential cooperation partners. In the Facts&Figures section you can get an insight in the results of our alumnisurvey and learn how the former participants evaluate the program with regard to its effectiveness several years after completing the course.
Voices of alumni about the courses and their impact:
"I am now at University of Alberta, doing a PhD course on sanitary landfills. I actually saw the first landfills during the CIPSEM short course on waste management in 2005, thanks for that! My assessment is that the course should be mandatory for people charged with solid waste management, especially in developing countries. I hope it is still being offered."
- Marclus Mwai from Kenya
"That's what I got from the Dresden course – international networking and friendship."
- Do Vu Khiem from Vietnam
"The course helped so much, raised my profile at work and I am now a focal person on Environment and Climate change in my sector."
- Tom Damulira from Uganda
