PANEL DISCUSSION "CLIMATE NEUTRAL BY 2035?"

Climate neutral by 2035? - What should be the contribution of the city of Dresden as a municipality and TU Dresden as an educational institution and the largest employer in the city?

Climate change is one of the most acute and significant challenges of our time. In its latest report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states that the critical global warming mark of 1.5 degrees will already be reached in around ten years, several years earlier than previously forecast. Institutions, local authorities and politicians must finally act to achieve the ambitious goal of being climate neutral by 2035.

Various actors from TU Dresden, the city and the urban society will have their say in a panel discussion to answer the question: Can we achieve climate neutrality by 2035? What can and should we do to achieve this goal? Which important role do the state capital Dresden and TU Dresden play in this?

Expected panelists are:

• Gunda Röstel (Member of the University Council of TU Dresden, Managing Director of Dresden Wastewater Treatment Services, Member of the German Council for Sustainable Development)
• Eva Jähnigen (Mayor of the State Capital Dresden, Councillor for the Environment and Municipal Economy)
• Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Röllig (Founder and coordinator of DresdenZero, a impartial initiative to establish climate neutrality by 2035 at the latest as part of the climate protection concept of the city of Dresden).
• Prof. Edeltraud Günther (Director at the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES))
• Lutz Thies (student and Student Senator of TU Dresden)

The event is organized and hosted by TU Dresden. Prof. Roswitha Böhm - Vice-Rector University Culture at TU Dresden, will inaugurate the event. Cornelius Pollmer will be the presenter.

Time: December 20, 2021, 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in a online format.

All interested citizens are invited to participate and also to ask questions. The event is free of charge.
