Prof. Christina Dornack reappointed to the German Advisory Council on the Environment

At the suggestion of Federal Minister for the Environment Steffi Lemke, the Federal Cabinet has just reappointed all current members of the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU). Among them is Prof. Christina Dornack, Director of the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy at TUD Dresden University of Technology. Professor Christina Dornack's scientific work focuses on material flow analyses, waste and recycling management, mineral waste, waste-related bioeconomy, the nexus between water, waste and soil as well as international waste management strategies.
The seven university professors represent different disciplines and have expert scientific knowledge and experience in environmental protection. The next term of office of the SRU begins on July 1, 2024 and ends on June 30, 2028

Federal Minister for the Environment Steffi Lemke: "We need reliable, critical policy advice on a scientific basis, especially in this day and age. This is what the SRU stands for. The current Council has done an excellent job and has proven itself in its composition with its integrated working methods. It has provided the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Government with valuable advice and critical expertise, for example on the subject of the environment and health. I would like to thank all members of the Council for their commitment. Therefore, I have proposed the reappointment of all previous members and I am convinced that the Council will continue its productive work in the coming term of office."

The German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU) was established in 1971 as a scientific advisory body to the Federal Government on environmental issues and began its work in 1972. The SRU is only bound by the assignment stipulated in the statutory order and is independent in its activities. According to paragraph 3 of the statutory order, the SRU is to "assess the current environmental situation and its development trends as well as environmentally relevant political, economic and social activities. It shall identify undesirable developments and point out opportunities for avoiding or eliminating environmental problems". At regular intervals, at least every two years, it prepares expert opinions, declarations and other written comments on current fundamental and individual environmental policy issues.
