Stress in the Forest?! The 2026 Tharandt Talks Invite You to Join the Discussion
Whether on a Sunday stroll, while picking mushrooms, or on a hike through
Saxon Switzerland: Anyone who has spent time in the woods in recent years can't have
missed the changes. Drought, heat, and pests have caused entire
forests to die off. Climate change has long been visibly evident in the forest.
But what will happen next if it gets even warmer and drier?
Under the title “Stress in the Forest—The Future in a Worst-Case Climate Scenario,” the Tharandt Talks 2026 will address precisely this question. The event has been
and is open to everyone free of charge.
This year, the focus is on participation. In four workshops—the “T-Talks”—students, citizens, and anyone interested will discuss these topics together with experts from academia, associations, and businesses. The discussions will address questions that affect us all: Which trees have a future in the face of climate change? Where will the seeds for tomorrow’s forests come from? What does the crisis mean for the timber industry? And what role do politics and society play? A field trip to the HS Timber sawmill rounds out the program by offering a glimpse into real-world practice.
The findings from the T-Talks will feed into the public panel discussion on
November 26, 2026, where representatives from academia, politics, and the field will come together. The findings will then be published as the “Tharandt Theses”.
