Our guiding principle
The mission statement of the Technical University Dresden advocates "a real equality of opportunities for all university members" (TU Dresden 2017), for which the aspects of the equal opportunities work of the TU Dresden are furthermore laid down in the equal opportunities concept 2014 (TU Dresden 2017).
However, an inventory. in 2016 showed that these goals have not yet been fully achieved at the faculty of environmental sciences, among others, as in 2016 there was still an unbalanced gender ratio, with a significantly higher male share in the scientific staff (Equal Opportunities Concept TU Dresden 2017). In order to counteract this situation, the faculty of environmental sciences is working on suitable measures so that the goals set out in the equality concept can be achieved.
Against this backdrop, FUN was initiated at the faculty of environmental sciences. Its goal is to create a platform, a thrieving network - primarily for female students to enable them to build up a professional network at an early stage of their career, e.g. during their studies or at the beginning of their professional career. Networks offer the opportunity to exchange information and to get to know actors and diverse professional fields. In addition, they can serve the professional carrer in the long term.
FUN* aims to provide a space to discuss the difficulties women encounter in everyday academic life (both in studies and at work) and to find or develop possible courses of action to find or develop ways of countering them. Furthermore, the offers aim to promote soft skills and hard skills of the participants.
In order to achieve these goals, a regular regulars' table is organized as part of FUN, which facilitates the exchange of information between actors of the various disciplines, professionals of possible career fields, students and employees of TU Dresden. Workshops, lectures and excursions are also part of the series of events. FUN offers about three events each semester.
