Since 1993 Full Professor in Tropical forestry, Technische Universität Dresden in Tharandt, dealing with lecturing and research in the socio-economics and policy of tropical forestry. 2002-2009 Vice Dean of the Faculty of Forest-, Geo- and Hydrosciences.
- Establishment and headship of the international MSc course Tropical Forestry and Management with participants of many tropical countries (since 1994).
- Field experiences, international research co-operation (mainly on the base of PhD studies) and university lecturing in Latin America (Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Chile, Bolivia), Africa (Ivory Coast, Madagascar, South Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan), and Asia (Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, India, Vietnam, China).
