The Chair of Tropical and International Forestry was one of the first academic
institutions in Europe on forestry in the Global South Throughout, the emphasis
has been on sustainable forest management However, the focus of the chair has
evolved from top down colonial and technically orientated forestry, to
participatory forest management, to analytical research on the socio-economic
and socio-political aspects of international and tropical forest governance
Today, a vibrant multi cultural group of research and teaching staff, doctoral
candidates and administrative staff, creates an atmosphere of collegiality and
openness and, thus, a motivating team spirit and room for individual
development.
