Plant–soil feedbacks in mangrove ecosystems
Illustration of the role of positive and negative feedbacks for ecosystem stability: for each set of soil- and vegetation parameters, the ecosystem stability can be estimated. Negative feedbacks tend to change the parameter set until the system reaches a more stable state, whereas positive feedbacks do the opposite. The review article compiles empirical studies on mangrove ecology as well as models of plant-soil feedbacks. It highlights how positive and negative plant-soil feedbacks influence processes such as seedling recruitment and ultimately mangrove ecosystem structure.
