Beech and pine meet drought and winter climate change
Whereas beech populations in northeastern Germany seem to be at risk in a future drier climate, responses of pine are more ambiguous with a possible trade-off between enhanced photosynthetic activity caused by early photosynthesis in late winter and reduced activity due to summer drought. A network study performed within the Ph.D. project of Juliane Stolz led to this conclusion. Results have now been published in Dendrochronologia.
