Launch of the cross-border research project BEECH
On January 1, 2026, the cross-border research project “Future of Beech Forests in the Ore Mountains in the Age of Climate Change” (BEECH) was officially launched. The project is funded under the Interreg Programme Saxony–Czech Republic 2021–2027 through EU funding (ERDF) and will run until December 31, 2028. The main objective of the project is to develop strategies to promote biodiversity in beech forests and to enhance their resilience to the impacts of climate change. To this end, silvicultural measures will be tested, forest areas revitalized, and professional exchange between research and forestry practice in the Saxon–Bohemian border region will be intensified.
The project is coordinated by the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and implemented in cooperation with additional partners from academia, forest administration, and practice in the Czech Republic and Germany. The close cross-border collaboration provides the foundation for practical solutions to support the climate-adapted development of beech forests. The project receives €1,441,233.55 in EU funding (ERDF).
