Kick-off of German-Czech research project ArchaeoTin
Was tin mined in the Ore Mountains as early as the Bronze Age 4000 years ago, and where was the tin traded? How did the climate and environment in the rough Ore Mountains look at that time, and what about the forests? Did man change them through an intensive use of wood?
Over the next three years, more than 20 scientists from seven project partners in Saxony, Bavaria and the Czech Republic will study these and other questions across borders using multidisciplinary research methods. Within the project, our focus will be on the reconstruction of forest history and composition as well as on dendrochronological investigations of archaeological woods found within the project.
The ArchaeoTin project is funded with 3.5 million euros by the Interreg Saxony - Czech Republic 2021-2027 program of the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE).
