Successful final meeting of BucheTIG project at TU Dresden

Beech forest near Altenberg
On March 12-13, 2025, the final meeting of the BucheTIG project was hosted at TU Dresden in Tharandt, attracting experts from diverse research areas to discuss the genetic and environmental adaptation of European beech. The two-day event featured insightful talks, including examinations of drought stress tolerance, beech genomics, and the use of remote sensing to study tree responses. Highlighting the practical aspects of the research, attendees visited a beech provenance trial in Malter and two closely monitored beech forests near Altenberg. The meeting underscored the collaborative efforts of the institutions involved in BucheTIG, namely the Thünen Institute, the University of Freiburg, and TU Dresden, and concluded with a dynamic discussion on the role of European beech in climate-smart forestry. BucheTIG was funded through the FNR under the “Forest Climate Fund” (Waldklimafonds) program.
