Through eagle eyes - using satellites to estimate masting and growth in beech?

In European beech, climate is affecting tree growth both directly as well as indirectly via masting. To elucidate this complex interplay as well as to assess the potential of using satellite‐derived time series of leaf-area index to estimate masting and tree-ring width in beech, Juliane Stolz led a study that was recently published in Regional Environmental Change. It was found that medium-resolved SPOT-VGT/PROBA-V LAI is suitable to observe masting but not to estimate TRW.
