"Clandestine Geographies of Bodies"
In the summer of 2024, the TU Dresden and the Leibniz-Institut für Länderkunde Leipzig host an Online Lecture Series devoted to
Clandestine Geographies of Bodies.
Fieldwork Practices in Secretive Contexts
In the course of three lectures by esteemed scholars in the field of bioethics, we want to explore practical experiences with and reflections of accessing fields and sites that may pose particular obstacles to their study - may it be due to secrecy, social norms or exclusions, allegations of criminal behavior, ethically sensitive topics, or due to their societal function. Whereas we might not be able to tackle every practical aspect of navigating difficulties of obtaining access and creating rapport, we aim at an open and experience-driven discussion on questions many researchers across the globe - early as well as late-stage career - face. Therefore, we want to extend an explicit invitation to all disciplinary backgrounds - ranging from geography, ethnography, anthropology, as well as political sciences, sociology, and bioethics. Furthermore, we want to specifically welcome students, postgraduates and PhD-researchers as well as PostDocs and Professors.
