New Cultural Geography XVIII in Dresden: Conference postponed to 2022
Dear friends of the NKG,
since the beginning of the year we have been preparing the next conference of the New Cultural Geography in Dresden on the topic of 'Discipline and Disciplining - Cultural Geographical Perspectives'.
With a heavy heart, we have now decided to postpone the conference by twelve months due to the pandemic and its disciplinary effects. NKG XVIII will thus take place from 27 to 29 January 2022 at the TU Dresden.
Background: Above all, the regulations at our university currently do not indicate that planning a conference for January 2021 is realistic. Teaching is also to take place 'primarily in digital form' in the winter semester 2020/21. There is no binding statement on scientific conferences; we have to reckon with the fact that there will be logistical bottlenecks with such formats, for example with the rooms, because of the necessary hygiene concepts.
We think it is a great pity to have to postpone the NKG. Under the current conditions, however, it seems to us to be the most sensible solution. For us, an online conference is no alternative to the lively discussions of the NKG and the personal encounters. The postponement has been coordinated with subsequent organisers-to-be who would move to 2023.
Volunteers ahead: Should you spontaneously find another location for the NKG 2021, please contact us.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Dresden in 2022! Stay tuned.
