Start of Studies in the Winter Semester 2026/27
A warm welcome to the Chair of Human Geography at the Institute of Geography at TU Dresden! We welcome all students who are starting with us this winter and everyone who is back from the semester break! On this page, you’ll find a collection of important information about starting your studies and the courses offered by the Chair of Human Geography.
Depending on your degree program, you will need to take different modules in the upcoming winter semester. You can find the specific modules listed in the study regulations. For the Bachelor’s program in Geography, you can find them here, and for the teacher education programs, here: Secondary School & Gymnasium. Teacher education students who were enrolled before 2023 should note that the old regulations still apply to them.
Most modules include lectures and seminars. You can find the specific offerings in the course schedule of the Institute of Geography, which is organized by academic year. Bachelor’s students can find it here, and teacher education students here. Once you have selected your modules and the corresponding courses, you must register for the respective courses on OPAL. There you will find an overview page for the Chair of Human Geography, from which you can access the individual courses. The courses offered by the Junior Chair for Sustainable Urban Futures are also listed there. This page is updated regularly, so you’ll be able to officially register for the courses starting October 5, 2026 . The registration period for Human Geography courses begins at 8:00 p.m., and for Urban Geography courses at 8:30 p.m. There you will also find all the information regarding the time and location of the respective courses. Please note that all courses will not be available for viewing until early October.
Starting in 2023, all students enrolled at the university must register for exams via the SELMA exam portal. Starting with the 2026/27 winter semester, all exams will be registered during a single period: October 1, 2026 – November 16, 2026.
You can find a wealth of general information here to help you get started at TU (e.g., the library, SELMA, housing, the semester ticket, etc.).
