OGC Climate and Disaster Resilience Pilot 2024
The Chair of Geoinformatics is taking part in the Climate and Disaster Resilience Pilot (CDRP24) currently organised by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
The initiative aims to tackle the urgent challenges posed by a changing climate. These include increasingly frequent and severe disasters such as rising sea levels, droughts, forest fires and floods.
Building on the success of previous pilots such as the Climate Resilience Pilot or the Disaster Pilot, the CDRP24 focuses on the use of interoperable geospatial technologies and standards to help combat climate and disasters. The pilot includes several thematic areas that focus on specific goals for end users, stakeholders and technical advances in climate and disaster resilience. The contribution of our professorship lies in the description and implementation of AI-based technologies to improve climate data search in the context of Spatial Data Infrastructures.
The most important objectives of the CDRP24 include
- Improving climate and disaster services by transitioning technical systems to climate services that are compliant with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable).
- Building sustainable relationships between different scientific fields, researchers, decision-makers, and data/system providers.
- Developing innovative solutions to promote climate resilience in different scientific and social domains.
- Improve visualisation, simulation and communication approaches and enhance interactivity and engagement
