The Chair of Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences offers a full-time position as
Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
Conversational Geographic Question Answering
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E13 TV-L)
starting on June 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible afterwards) limited to three years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).
Tasks:
- scientific research in the DFG-funded project "Chat4Data"
- creation and maintenance of a data corpus for scientific geographic question answering
- design and implementation of automated test strategies for (conversational) geographic question answering systems on geographic knowledge graphs
- user-centered evaluation of conversational (geographic) question answering systems
Requirements:
- university degree (Master of Science or Diploma) in Informatics, Geoinformatics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
- familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, R, Java, ….)
- familiarity with Semantic Web Standards (RDF, SPARQL) is an advantage
- good command of written and spoken English
- good command of German language is advantageous but not a requirement.
- a reliable, proactive and structured way of working is desirable
