Since 2015 Lars Bernard is Full Professor for Geoinformatics at the Technische Universität Dresden. He holds a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from the University of Münster (2001) and a Diploma in Geography (1995). From 1992 to 2001 he worked as researcher at the Institute for Geoinformatics at the University of Münster. In 2001 he became an assistant Professor in Geoinformatics and in 2003 he stood in for a full professorship in Geoinformatics. End of 2003 he moved to the Joint Research Centre (Italy) to participate in the development of guidelines for the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE). His current research activities focus on (Geo-)Information Infrastructures, Geoinformation Usability, Distributed Geoprocessing and Smart Environmental Monitoring. His teaching covers fundamental and advanced aspects of Geoinformatics.  Lars acts serves in several scientific and professional boards. He serves several scientific committees as well as steering boards and expert groups. Lars Bernard has been invited for a number of national and international keynotes and served as chair and co-chair and in several program committees of national and international GI conferences and workshops. In 2019 Lars Bernard became the Spokesman for NFDI4Earth as the National Research Data Infrastructure for Earth system sciences. In 2020 he has become Chief Digitalization and Information Management Officer at the Technical University of Dresden and member of the TUD Rectorate.
