From 15.-17. November, PhD student Johanna Kranz attended the 8th International Workshop on Retrieval of Bio- and Geophysical Parameters from SAR Data for Land Applications at La Sapienza University in Rome. This workshop was orgainsed by the European Space Agency (ESA). Novel applications of microwave data from different sensors in forestry, agriculture, hydrology and glaciology were presented. Further, the use of machine learning versus physical modelling approaches, as well as potential gaps in long-term data availability were discussed in round-table discussions.
Johanna presented her work on Analysing the sensitivity of Sentinel-1 SAR to water dynamics in vegetation in a combined model approach in the soil moisture and hydrology session.
