Improving forest fire risk management in Europe
General assembly of the FirEUrisk project in Coimbra, Portugal
The Junior Professorship in Environmental Remote Sensing (Luisa Schmidt, Christopher Marrs und Matthias Forkel) participated from 30.03. to 01.04.2022 at the general assesmbly of the FirEUrisk project in Coimbra, Portugal.
The aim of the project is to develop new observations, modelling systems and management practices to reduce wildfire risks in Europe.
The Junior Professorship in Environmental Remote Sensing is leading the integration of wildfire risk components, data sets and models, and is working towards consistency between observations and future fire model projections. We also manage various regional activities in the central-European pilot site.
As part of the stay in Coimbra, we visited the forest fire laboratory of the University Coimbra (photo) and regions in cnetral Portugal that were affected by extreme wildfires in 2017.
We thank Prof. Dr. Domingos Viegas and his team from the University Coimbra ofr this insightful meeting and we are proud to be a part of FirEUrisk.
