13th June 2022: Gaia Data Release 3
The Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3) will be published on June, 13th 2022 at 12:00 CET. While the astrometric positions, velocities and distances of roughly 1.8 billion celestial objects where already published in December 2020 during the Early Data Release (EDR3), now a multitude of additional astrophysical data will be made available to the public. This data contains for example
- Object classifications for 1.59 billion sources and astrophysical parameters (Teff, logg, [M/H], AG, distance, etc.) from BP/RP spectra for 470 million objects
- Mean BP/RP spectra for 219 million sources
- Solar-system results for 158,000 sources (including 31 planetary satellites), with orbital solutions
- Mean radial velocities for 33 million stars
- Some 6.6 million quasar candidates
- and many more
A complete overview on the data can be found here.
On the occasion of the data release several (online) events will take place all over Europe. In the context of the german national event the head of the Lohrmann Observatory of the TU Dresden, Prof. Klioner, will talk among other things also about the contributions from Dresden to the new Gaia catalogue.
