The observatory tower has been completed

With today’s handover of the observatory tower from the SIB to TU Dresden, the renovation work in this area of the Beyerbau has been completed. From now on the tower is available again to the team at the Lohrmann Observatory.

In the coming weeks, we will bring our collection of historical instruments—which had long been stored in various depots—back to the tower and prepare them for public viewing.

Note on Guided Tours and Reopening

Our large refractor cannot be reinstalled until spring 2027 at the earliest. Setting up our exhibition of historical astro-geodetic instruments will also take some time.

Until this work is completed, we unfortunately cannot offer public tours of the observatory.
