Public Outreach
The Lohrmann Observatory is very committed to the public dissemination of astronomical knowledge. This includes the communication of the latest scientific findings within the framework of public contracts as well as participation in children's universities, guided tours for groups through the Lohrmann observatory or events on special astronomical events, such as the passage of Venus.
Guided Tours through the Lohrmann-Observatorium
Since 2017, the Beyer building has been completely renovated. Due to the deinstallation of our telescope and the relocation of staff to the office building on August-Bebel-Straße, we are unfortunately no longer able to offer guided tours at the moment. Once the renovation work has been completed, we will be happy to welcome you back for guided tours with a freshly renovated refractor and our new planetarium.

The transit of Venus in 2004 and 2012 at the Lohrmann Observatory
On June 8, 2004 and June 6, 2012 the Lohrmann Observatory recorded a veritable rush of visitors. The reason was the rare occurrence of a transit of our neighboring planet Venus in front of the sun. Read a report that was written by a student at a Dresden grammar school. It also contains one-off recordings and video sequences that were obtained on these days by the employees of the Lohrmann Observatory.
