Prof. Dr. Natalie Orlowski and Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann elected to the extended board of the German Hydrological Society
During the Day of Hydrology Conference 2025, held from March 19 to 21 at the University of Augsburg, Prof. Dr. Natalie Orlowski (Chair of Forest Sites and Hydrology) and Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann (Chair of Groundwater Systems), both affiliated at TU Dresden, were elected to the extended board of the German Hydrological Society (DHG) e.V.
The DHG is the most significant association for hydrologists in German-speaking countries. It serves as a central platform for promoting scientific exchange, strengthening the hydrological discipline, and supporting research, teaching, and practical applications. Additionally, it actively promotes young scientists and organizes specialized events such as the annual Day of Hydrology.
The DHG board leads the hydrological society strategically and organizational. It shapes the direction of key activities, represents hydrology's interests to politics, administration, and the public, and engages in national and international committees and conferences. Board members also serve as key contacts for current issues in water management, climate adaptation, and sustainable water use.
Prof. Orlowski and Prof. Hartmann bring extensive international expertise to the board, with research focuses including eco-hydrology, water availability in forest ecosystems, stable isotope applications, modeling of complex groundwater systems, and developing innovative methods to assess hydrological processes influenced by global change.
Both professors see their new roles as opportunities to strengthen dialogue between science, practice, and society, promote young researchers, and enhance the visibility of hydrology as a key discipline for environmental and climate issues.
