Together for clean water: Saxon-Czech "IDEAL" project strengthens training in water management
The IDEAL Project - Importance of water eDucation in the EuropeAn elbe/Labe region strengthens competency development through cross-border cooperation in times of growing challenges.
Cross-border water pollution and the growing challenges posed by climate change, population growth, and industrial expansion require highly qualified professionals who are trained in an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented manner. Within the Saxon-Czech project team, the focus is on joint learning and on closely linking science, education, and professional practice.
Two key areas are receiving particular attention within the framework of vocational training and continuing education in the water sector:
- Training of academics and skilled professionals for the water management
- Raising general public awareness of water as a critical resource
To ensure comprehensive expertise in all areas, the project team was formed from different universities and wastewater associations in both countries. This structure ensures that the project addresses both academic and practical dimensions.
Project partners include:
- The Faculty of the Environment at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (UJEP)
- Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (ČZU)
- German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA)
- Czech Water Association (CzWA)
- Severočeské vodovody a kanalizace (SčVK)
- TU Dresden, which serves as the lead partner and is represented by the Institute of Hydrobiology, the Institute of Urban Water Management, and the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology
The project’s core activities include the development, organization, and delivery of various modules, courses, and practical training programs for different target groups, all focused on the areas outlined above.
