The Institute of Hydrobiology
The Institute of Hydrobiology is responsible for the field of aquatic ecology within the Department of Hydrosciences. Main topics are the biodiversity, ecology and evolution of aquatic organisms, the effects of anthropogenic stressors and the interrelationships between aquatic organisms and ecosystem functions and services.
Teaching and Research
The institute of hydrobiology is responsible for the field of aquatic ecology within the department of hydrosciences. Main topics are biodiversity, ecology and evolution of aquatic organisms, effects of anthropogenic stressors, interrelationships between organisms and ecosystem services and functions. Our research activities are cross-linked to other departments of the faculty environmental sciences and cooperation partners in Germany, Europe and the World.
The institute is the home of the Chair of Limnology (Aquatic Ecology) and is located at the university building "Drude-Bau", Zellscher Weg 40, 01217 Dresden.
The institute works in close co-operation with two joint professorships between TU Dresden and the Helmholtz Institute for Environmental Research (UFZ) on "Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis and Management" and "Applied Stream Ecology".
Recent research projects are dealing with species protection of freshwater mussels, ecotoxicology and biomonitoring, nature-orientated hydraulic engineering and its influence on fish populations and macrozoobenthos, the genetic diversity of different fish species in Germany, on climate change and eutrophication, gene transfer of antibiotic resistences, the dynamics of predator-prey systems or the effects of nanomaterials on ecosystems.
The studies are jointly organized by the 3 professorships: read more about the courses and modules
Research is separately organized by the three professorships (including joount projects):
- Professorship of Limnology
- Professorship of Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis and Management
- Professorship of Applied Stream Ecology
