Project description
The project aims to develop a novel UASB reactor (Upstream Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) featuring a high performance microbial granule and anaerobic nitrogen elimination. The system is expected to allow direct methanation of primary wastewater without requiring prior sludge activation steps. For increased efficiency and reduction of nitrogen formed internally in the reactor, light-guiding fibers will be integrated as flow generators, which should allow the growth of a novel microbial ALENO (Anaerobic Light Enhanced N-Oxidation) granule.
