Project description:
The project aimed to advance the implementation of master's degree programs in waste management in Africa and the Pacific region (specifically Sierra Leone, Mauritius and Papua New Guinea). The initial focus is on the qualification of teaching staff and the collaborative development of curricula in line with European standards.
Within the framework of this project, workshops were held in Freetown (Sierra Leone) for four days at the end of January 2011 with Prof. Bilitewski and Dr. Wünsch and in Lae (Papua New Guinea) from mid-July 2011 with Dr. Wünsch. The final conference took place on the topic "International Conference on Waste Management in Developing and Transient Economies" from 5 - 8 September 2011. Prof. Bilitewski, Mrs. Lange and Mrs. Brunn participated from our institute.
The project ended at the end of this year 2011 with the result that in Mauritius a master course "Solid Waste and Resource Management" is approved and the first students are enrolled. In Sierra Leone and Papua New Guinea, work will continue in the future to implement the master's degree programs.
