Project description and results:
The WAMBUCO (Waste Manual for Building Construction) research project produced the first European waste manual for building construction.
Since November 1, 2002, the participants of WAMBUCO planned and organized construction measures according to recycling and waste prevention aspects.
The aim was to enable the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) involved in construction to use resources sparingly while at the same time increasing productivity.
WAMBUCO covered all phases of a construction project: Where and when does what waste arise during planning and execution? This knowledge helps to make the construction process more environmentally friendly and cost-effective and also to reduce the risk of accidents and fires on construction sites. Taking into account the EU environmental legislation, WAMBUCO determined waste indicators and developed international standards for waste disposal.
In a waste handbook summarized on CD-Rom, WAMBUCO's results continue to serve as a planning aid for all parties involved in construction measures.
