"WATCH": WATER CATCHMENT AREAS - TOOLS FOR MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL OF HAZARDOUS COMPOUNDS
Partners:
- IBST Cranfield University (UK)
- IIQAB Barcelona (ESP)
- DIACLONE Besancon (F)
- Stadtwerke Düsseldorf (D)
- Stadtwerke Salzburg (AUT)
- DHI Hoersholm (DK)
Funding: European Union
Duration: April 2001 - February 2004
Project Management: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Peter Werner, Dipl.-Ing. Jens Fahl
Description of subtasks:
- Development of a specific, sensitive and reproducible laboratory method for the quantification of MTBE and BTEX.
- Characterization of the degradation capacities under groundwater conditions.
- Identification of favorable electron acceptors for the hazardous substances.
- Elucidation of the effects that favor or inhibit degradation.
- Identification of the chemical, ecotoxicological, and microbial parameters as a means of identifying pollution originating from BTEX, MTBE, and ETBE contamination. Integrate these research results into analytical systems developed in other subsections of Project WATCH.
