Project description:
The aim of the project is to develop and technically implement a process engineering concept - called the NEVO process - for the use of nitrogen-rich farm manure, so that mono-digestion of these feedstocks - in particular poultry manure or poultry dung - can be realized.
With regard to the technical implementation, it is planned to implement the process stages in modular design by means of process containers, so that a flexible use with COD room loadings of 50 g/L is possible.
Especially for substrates with high nitrogen contents and salt loads, uninhibited fermentation is particularly desirable. The process to be developed is aimed at separating the hydrolysis/acidogenesis stage from methanogenesis. Thus, the degradation of the organic carbon load can be optimized. The aim is to achieve purification efficiencies of 95% within 24 hours.
The objective of the studies is to investigate and compare the continuous anaerobic degradation of the pretreated substrate (liquid phase from the NEVO acidogenesis stage) under the variation of different parameters. High-performance methanation of the liquid phase will be carried out with the aid of growth supports. In the course of the project, experiments on hydrrolysis gas injection and recirculation will also be carried out.
