Guest Scientist
MSc. Carlos Vallejos from Universidad Centroamericana (UCA-Managua) is a visiting scientist at the Institute of Water Chemistry (IWC) from 7 May to 8 July 22. He is researching the coating a type of geomaterial, pumice, modified with a FeCl3/MnSO4 mixture to evaluate its efficiency in removing arsenic from well water samples. At TU Dresden, he conducted kinetic adsorption and isotherm experiments with synthetic water containing arsenic to determine the best adsorption particle diameter and optimize conditions for a family filter to remove arsenic from wells in the community of La Fuente in Nicaragua. He will continue this research in Nicaragua with real well samples. He hopes that the work done at the IWC will be a good step in maintaining collaboration with UCA-Managua and facilitating two-way exchanges between staff and students.
