In August 2022, Dr Marinda Avenant (University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa) is guest at the Institutes of Water Chemistry and Hydrobiology of TU Dresden as a "DRESDEN Junior Fellow". One of the main aims of the research stay is to further intensify and expand the already excellent cooperation in the field of surface water monitoring. The focus of the jointly harmonised strategy for current and future sampling in South Africa is the combination of classical aquatic biomonitoring methods with innovative in-vitro bioassays and state-of-the-art chemical analyses. In addition to many expert discussions, practical laboratory activities and field studies, a common scientific publication on a joint sampling in a river basin near the Drakensberg (South Africa) in spring 2022 will also be prepared during Dr Avenant's stay.
