Research Expedition on the Elbe: Water Chemistry on a Recycled Raft
In June 2022 (June 7–11), a group of faculty and staff from the Hydrosciences department—led by the Institute for Waste and Circular Economy and in collaboration with our Institute for Water Chemistry—embarked on a very special research expedition: On a raft they built themselves from recycled materials, they traveled down the Elbe—Germany’s second-longest river—from Dresden to Magdeburg. During the trip, water samples were taken regularly and subsequently analyzed in the lab for pollutants and key parameters. The findings from this unusual expedition provide valuable data on the water quality of the Elbe.
